Former President Chief Olusegun Obasango, Charles Soludo and Tony Elumeu Co-founded the Africa Finance Corporation
The former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Tony O. Elumelu and Charles C. Soludo were recognized as the founding board members of the Africa Finance Corporation during the 10 years anniversary gala that the AFC was founded.
In a post by Tony Elumelu, he revealed how they had the dream 10 years ago to build the Africa version of World Bank's IFC which led to the founding of Africa Finance Corporation.
His words below;
"I was on the founder's panel yesterday at the Africa Finance Corporation infrastructure summit with fellow co-founders Charles Soludo and former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Ten years ago, we had a dream to build Africa's version of the World Bank's IFC.
To sit on the panel today with the founding AFC team, as we discussed how far this dream has come, was equal parts humbling and emotional.
Through the AFC, Africa is being transformed one infrastructure project at a time.
AFC continues to finance ports development, railway construction and transport expansion across the continent.
AFC also invests in power to power Africa out of poverty.
I commend the management and the CEO Andrew Alli who have continued to deliver on the AFC promise. We have seen great seeds planted, but how you nurture the seed to germination is as important as its sowing.
Finally, in my capacity as the chairman of the united Bank of Africa - the biggest investor in AFC after CBN. I am proud of AFC and my hopes for the organization are:
- AFC grows to attract ever more much-needed capital to Africa;
- They begin to engage African governments to create the right environment for such capital to have the right impact.
In another post he said;
It is one thing to have a great ideas but entirely another to bring they to fruition. Our Africa Finance Corporation vision was to build an African version of IFC of World Bank. I thank the CEO Andrew Alli and the management team at AFC who have sustained the vision which so awe inspiring in the beginning.
